PROACTIVE EDUCATION AND EMPOWERING COMMUNITIES

Ensuring the safety of children is a shared responsibility—one that has become increasingly complex in today’s fast-paced, digitally connected world. Schools and community organisations play a vital role in safeguarding children, which requires a multi-layered, proactive approach to prevent harm and respond effectively to emerging risks. Building safe and supportive environments is not the work of one individual—it requires collective commitment from educators, staff, parents, and the wider community to proactively protect children and prevent harm.

Prevention Intiatives

Step in for Kids is a specialist provider of school-based education and training programs focused on grooming prevention, child protection, and child safety awareness for teenagers and educators. Drawing on Sarah Kopp’s lived experience as a survivor and her background in secondary education, we deliver age-appropriate, evidence-informed programs designed to empower children, educators, and communities with the knowledge and tools to recognise, respond to, and prevent predatory behaviour. All of our presentations are delivered in a fun and engaging environment, supported by resources that bring the learning to life through videos, real-world case studies, and interactive materials.

We deliver education programs anywhere in Australia, creating opportunities for proactive conversations so that both adults in protective positions and teenagers themselves can step in for kids. Our programs are tailored for a wide range of educational and community settings, including:

Teen Education

We offer a suite of programs for high schools and independent associations designed to equip teenagers with protective behaviours, the ability to recognise signs of grooming, and strategies to seek help or intervene safely.

  • Recognise early warning signs of grooming and predatory behaviour

  • Develop safe communication and boundary-setting skills

  • Learn how to reach out to trusted adults or support services when concerned

  • Parent-teen workshops and presentations

Educator Programs

Educators are critical in identifying risk and stepping in for children. We provide specialised training packages that give teachers and staff the knowledge, skills, and confidence to recognise grooming behaviours, respond appropriately, and take action when necessary:

  • Identify subtle and overt grooming behaviours in students and colleagues

  • Implement effective child protection and reporting protocols

  • Build safe classroom and school environments to reduce risk

  • Engage with parents and the wider community to reinforce child safety practices

If you are an educator, community group, or institution interested in customisable training packages to strengthen child protection efforts, please reach out to contact@stepinforkids.org
